For Teachers

Boston Collegiate Charter School is a tuition-free, college preparatory public school.  We currently serve over 400 students in grades 5-12 from all 13 Boston neighborhoods. We have a staff of 58 and will be expanding to enroll over 500 students in the coming years.

We know that without great teachers, nothing else matters.  To that end, we have focused significant effort on building an environment that encourages teachers to stay, to grow, and to thrive within the school community, including:

  • Curricular and classroom autonomy: Each teacher has flexibility and autonomy to determine how best to implement the curriculum, while simultaneously addressing the state standards and ensuring students learn the fundamentals of each subject area.
  • A manageable schedule:  Teachers are responsible for no more than four classes, 88 students, and have two, daily hour-long planning periods.
  • A professional and supportive work environment: Every staff member receives his/her own computer, professional workspace, e-mail, phone and voice-mail, Internet access, and two hours of planning each day.  New teachers are paired with mentors and all teachers receive extensive on-going support from their peers, Department Chairs , the Dean of Curriculum and the Middle and High School Principals.
  • A team of exceptional and pioneering colleagues: Boston Collegiate teachers have on average five years of teaching experience. Every staff member brings an entrepreneurial spirit to the work with a focus on offering students the best instruction possible in a young, evolving, high-performing school.
